Polaroid Cameras are the predecessor to today’s digital cameras in the sense that Polaroid pioneered the instant picture via self developing film. Edwin Land founded the Polaroid Corporation in 1937 and ten years later brought the worlds first instant film camera to market, the Polaroid Land Camera.
Polaroid can also be credited with producing the first instant film camera, the Polavision, however production of the Polavision was stopped when VHS recorders became popular. Today only Fujifilm still markets instant camera film and production has steadily declined for years. Polaroid camera film is required to operate the units and so as film production stops the ability to use Polaroid cameras is quickly fading. The digital camera has ensured that fate.
